How to optimize your tablet's performance for gaming or streaming content this summer

The tablets are a good solution for those looking to consume content outside the home: they are easy to use, have a good autonomy and, above all, are easy to transport. SPC, the Spanish technology company specialising in consumer electronics, offers four tips to optimise the performance of tablets. tablets and thus enjoy even more of consuming content in streaming this holiday season.

Since the start of the pandemic, we have increased our use of electronic devices. We use the Internet more intensively, we play more online, we watch more streaming content and we use our tablets more. Users have consumed more and have therefore opted for larger screen sizes on their devices. During the second quarter of 2020, a total of 37.5 million tablets were sold globally, an amount that is 26.1% higher than the 29.7 million in the same period of 2019, according to a report by Canalys.

These types of devices are ideal for taking advantage of platforms such as Google Stadia, a virtual video console that offers video game streaming, or Netflix, Prime Video, HBO or Disney+ accounts. Tablets are a good solution for those looking to consume content outside the home: they are easy to use, have a good autonomy and, above all, are easy to transport. Especially in the summer, when they make it possible to liven up train or plane journeys and play online games or catch up on series in second homes or holiday homes.

SPC, the Spanish technology company specializing in smart consumer electronics products, offers four tips to optimize the performance of tablets for gaming and onlinecontent consumption and get them ready for the holiday season:

Limit the use of background applications

With the daily use of tablets, applications are often loaded into memory and consume certain resources in the background, limiting the performance of the games and may even return an unpleasant user experience.

Stopping some background processes allows us to increase battery life, optimize RAM and improve the overall performance of the tablet. The first thing we need to know is how long the apps have been running and how much RAM they use. If we go to the device settings, it is possible to see which apps are running and which are consuming the most battery, so we can end these processes.

Saving mobile data used when you're away from home will also be significant. If we have an application in the background that is constantly accessing data, we may see a higher than normal consumption.

Free up memory on your device

Although applications have an estimated weight, this can vary for various reasons: for example, updates or movement of temporary and cache files. If we do not have enough storage space in memory, we may not be able to run games and streaming platforms properly and the overall performance of the tablet decreases as we have to optimize the few resources available.

Regarding the cache memory, it collects data from installed applications as we use them. These remain in the system, unless the user deletes them. While they are useful for those apps that you have installed and give them some use, in many cases they become a nuisance. For this reason it is good, from time to time, delete the cache memory. To do this you have to go to the settings and enter the 'Storage' section, where you can tap on the cached data and delete them.

It is also possible to install smaller applications: those with the name Go that will allow us to remove very heavy apps and replace them with these much lighter ones. An example is YouTube Go, with a similar operation and where there is practically no noticeable difference.

Another option is to purchase and install an SD memory card, which allows us to expand the space of our tablet and use it as internal storage. In this way it is possible to move different applications and other files to the card.

Disable synchronization tasks

The synchronization of the different applications and services on devices with Google's operating system is really useful, since, for example, it depends on this that emails arrive at the same time they are received or that Now offers its service properly.

By default, tablets synchronize information with our accounts in the cloud, either through the Google account or any other with which we have logged in. The synchronization process usually consumes a lot of resources, so if any of these synchronization processes are running while we play, it is possible that the game starts to run slowly and even crashes.

Keep applications up to date

Application updates usually bring improvements in operation and performance, generating that our mobile devices get to work in a better way if we install them.

However, it is recommended to disable automatic updates: this action improves performance on Android, as it avoids the constant execution of processes related to Google Services and application updates, as well as unnecessary writing in RAM and ROM.

Therefore, you should opt for manual updates: they have the advantage that the user has greater control over what is being installed at all times and what is included in each change incorporated by the developers so that the user is the one who decides whether or not to install the update finally.

SPC has just introduced GRAVITY ULTIMATE y GRAVITY PROtwo new top-of-the-line tablets from SPC: they include a new generation 12nm 2.0 GHz Quad-Core processor for great performance, ultra-fast WiFi 5 and large memory capacities.
